The property itself and location were excellent. The canoe house and family pool were good. The poolside service was inconsistent. Also not sure why they have a “surf shack” with no waves.
Words cannot express how amazing this resort is!!! Our experience staying at the Mauna Lani was beyond excellent! The resort is absolutely gorgeous, nestled on Big Island's west side surrounded by superb views of the coast, volcanos and nearby lava rock fields. The grounds are absolutely stunning, the facilities are top notch with lots of attention to detail and the property has a nice white sand beach in a bay where lots of wildlife seem to congregate (we saw 5 sea turtles in the water one morning!). The views of the sunset here are amazing and can be seen either from the beach, walking along the walkway riding along the coast or from the beautiful pools on property. The resort is pretty remote from a lot of places, and we needed 2 1/2 hours to drive down to Volcanoes National park but being so isolated and disconnected was the best!
Our room was an oceanfront room with a beautiful view looking west (sunsets here were amazing to see to!). We found the room very luxurious, roomy and clean. The fine dining restaurant Canoe House was excellent in terms of the taste & quality of the food and the service, plus the resort has a bar near the pools and a little market for buying lots of snacks and drinks. We recommend this hotel to anyone staying on Big Island!!!
This has to be one of the most beautiful properties on the island! The lobby is stunning, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and the grounds are beautiful! It is great for families with children, but equally as great for adults without kids. There are many activities that you can do. It is very upscale; but still relaxed and has a lot of island feel to it. If you are active, this is a great place as there are countless water activities already included in the resort fee, and many walkable trails to explore the coast. 12/10.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
I thought the property was nice but not worth the money per night. Rooms felt more like a MARRIOTT, HYATT corporate hotel and not an Auberge property.
A true feeling of being on vacation. The food is EXCELLENT! The room is comfortable, quiet, and had everything we needed and more including little unexpected touches. The staff was incredible and attentive. The excursions were truly wonderful and meaningfully curated. The only complaint is that many of the activities were filled and we couldn’t participate in a few we wanted. We booked the trip about a week before coming and they seem to fill up fast. Other than that disappointment I really have no complaints. Even if there is a hiccup which there always will be anywhere you stay their response time to things is on point and I never felt not relaxed and pampered while there. Wish I could have stayed another week. Highly recommend the botanical dying classes with Sara, one word, MAGICAL✨✨✨ and DO NOT miss out on the morning canoe experience. The people who run the canoe excursion are very knowledgable about the Hawaiian culture and passionate about passing on the history. It was a spectacular experience. There are many luxury hotels but the Mauna Lani Auberge just takes it to the next level. I can’t wait to go back.
I preferred the Mauna Lani before Auberge. It’s not the same relaxed low key vibe at all. Very over priced. Shortage of staff. Slow service at all restaurants. Too many kids for an upper end luxury hotel. Lack of personalized service. Felt disconnected from hotel.
