Right off the bat, I was greeted by a really rude person at reception named Jose C. who made it feel like he was doing me a favor by checking me in. The room I was given was not only noise-y - all of the street noise was incoming and on top of that I could hear every single flush/shower sound my next door neighbor made, the bed also had torn and stained bedsheets. Upon request my room was changed, once again, the bedsheets smelled like someone's perfume and I ended up going back to the room I was originally in only to be woken up by the sounds of showering in the next room. They changed my room again, and this time the bed was so hard, it was like sleeping on cardboard. I finally checked out 2 days early after a lot of back and forth with hotels.com and the hotel staff. The building is super dilapidated and the rooms are just shabby. If you care about your sleep and your well being, I would stay away from the New Yorker.

Close to absolutely everything. Love the huge gym and washers and dryers. Our room was very outdated (old rug, old curtains, paint chipping) There was AC but it didnt work well and we were very hot. Because the hotel is old, the walls are paper thin and you can hear everything from other rooms and the hallway.

While traveling to NYC for Fashion Week, my husband couldn’t join last minute, leaving me to travel alone with our two young kids (ages 4 & 6). I can’t say enough great things about The New Yorker Hotel and their phenomenal staff. From the moment I called to confirm early check-in, Neida was incredible—warm, helpful, and reassuring. She even gave detailed directions from the airport to save money and suggested family-friendly activities. Meeting her in person felt like seeing a beloved relative—she made us feel like family. Mohammed at check-in was also fantastic, helping us get a spacious, clean room—rare for NYC! The elevator security staff were consistently friendly and made us feel safe and welcome. When we had a guest, they confirmed with us and kindly escorted them up. Housekeeping was attentive, the location was perfect, and I never once felt unsafe. As a frequent traveler, I’ve rarely encountered such genuine hospitality. I’d give this hotel 5+ stars—a truly exceptional experience!

The hotel was in terrible condition — paying $450 for what felt like a dump was outrageous. Staff began knocking on the door at 10:00am insisting I leave, even though checkout wasn’t until 11:00am. The corridors resembled a government-run homeless shelter, not a hotel. While the Art Deco building itself has character, it desperately needs new management. It seems like the current owners haven’t even seen the state of the rooms and hallways. To make matters worse, today’s room rate was listed at $700 — absolutely unjustifiable for the experience offered.

Great location for a concert at Madison Square Garden and it's within walking distance to a lot of other Manhattan must do's. However The property itself is old and dated and could really stand some upgrades, especially within the bathrooms. The hallways were smelly and the room was super tiny.

Our Front Desk Representative, Jimmy, was phenomenal!!!! It was New York Fashion Week and therefore a busy weekend and very active lobby. He gave us undivided attention as if we were the only ones in the room, and checked on each each time we visited the lobby. What an awesome experience in large part because of Jimmy!!

The New Yorker by Lotte might be acceptable if you want a cheapish base in Midtown and don’t expect much luxury. If you’re picky about comfort, amenities, or value, this place disappoints. The positives (location, occasional views) just barely offset the negatives in many stays, but for the cost, you expect more.
