We really enjoyed our stay at Yamatoya Honten Ryokan during our trip to Osaka. The room was much more spacious than the usual hotel rooms in Japan, which was great for opening luggage and relaxing after long days of sightseeing. Everything was very clean and well kept, including the bathroom and common areas. The service was excellent — staff were warm, polite, and helpful, even with tourist questions like directions and nearby attractions. Check-in was smooth, and we felt very welcome throughout our stay. The location is also very convenient for tourists, with easy access to shopping areas, restaurants, and public transport, yet the ryokan itself was quiet and comfortable at night. Overall, it was a great mix of traditional ryokan experience and modern comfort. Would recommend to anyone visiting Osaka.

The staff were very courteous and spoke English very well. They laid the futons out for us while we were out, and I'm not sure if it's part of the room cleaning, that we never put the sign out for, but they never picked the futons back up. Not a big deal, We didn't spend too much time in the room anyway. We weren't able to check out the bath house or sauna house as the hotel is right across the street from Dotonbori street and we spent every day walking around Osaka.

Location great, staff friendly... other than that.. HORRIBLE. Incredibly uncomfortable, AC doesn't work right, towels are TINY and paper thin. No coffee, no tea, no bathmat, no nothing. Everything is old and bad. They seem to go out of their way to NOT do basic things that all over hotels do. Please know I don't like leaving bad reviews, but they just don't seem to care.

The location is perfect. It is walkable and around less than 10 min walking distance to the subway station. The staffs are kind and I enjoyed their big bath room. You need to prepare the charger as most of outlets only have two poles. Drinking water provided is not sufficient for three people. The room can contain 4 to 5 people for a family with up to 2 to 3 kids. We can see people walking on the street from the window. It is a memorable place.

I liked how close it was to everything although I think I'd like something a little farther away next time. I had a view of Dontonburi market from my window and the traditonal breakfast food was decent but def cheaper to go somewhere else but is convenient since its right on the property. Staff was great but there was one night where the elevator didnt work and of course I was on the 5th floor and the onsen looked sad and not kept up well. They put community brushes in there which i think is disgusting and it just didnt feel clean in there. The room itself was great though and sleeping in the futon was comfortable.

If you only have a few days to visit Osaka, this location is the most convenient option. The front desk is open 24 hours, staffed by kind and polite employees who speak English. I noticed that most guests are local Japanese, with not many foreign tourists. I recommend this place if you want to experience traditional tatami-style accommodations and a public bath, reflective of Japanese living.
