The rooms at Bávaro Barcelo Palace are nice, and the amenities are truly endless for both families and couples. That said, the service leaves a lot to be desired and cleanliness was very much lacking. While getting a drink at the bar is quick and efficient, everything else, daily room turnover, buffet service, and making reservations, feels like pulling teeth. It’s a massive resort with 8,000+ rooms, but it’s clearly understaffed when it comes to proper customer service. A simple smile or good attitude would go a long way.
The gym is extremely small and nearly impossible to use given the resort’s size. The pools are loud, making it hard to relax, and the beach is so crowded you need to wake up at 7 a.m. just to secure a chair. Buffet food is disappointing, and the restaurants generally underperform.
That said, some positives stand out. The bar staff are impeccable at pumping out drinks quickly, and well-maintained. If you’ve been to the Dominican before, you’ll also appreciate being left relatively hassle-free by beach vendors. These factors are what nudged my rating up from a 2 to a 3.
Would I stay here again? Maybe—but smaller, modern resorts with more personalized service and higher quality dining might be a better fit.
