Pleasurable stay.

Please do not stay here. Not only is the management terrible, but the rooms are filthy, musty, and poorly maintained. I even had to switch rooms during my stay. We originally stayed at the La Quinta in Galt because my daughter, who is a photographer, had events around San Francisco. We decided to move to Oakland thinking it would be closer and more convenient. Looking back, leaving Galt was a huge mistake. The La Quinta in Galt was gorgeous, clean, and had an amazing staff. This location was the complete opposite. When I checked in, my state ID was expired. I understand policies are policies, but I have never had an issue using it before — I even flew to NYC with it. I asked if they could simply change the reservation to my daughter’s name since she was also staying with me, but the staff refused. The supervisor was rude, dismissive, and completely unhelpful. At 1 a.m., exhausted and overwhelmed, I ended up on the phone with Hotels.com in tears trying to fix the situation. Having worked for Marriott in my 20s, I was honestly shocked by the lack of customer service and compassion. After more than an hour, Hotels.com finally spoke with the hotel manager, who agreed to cancel and rebook the reservation under my daughter’s name. Unfortunately, the problems didn’t stop there. The hotel smelled strongly of smoke, the room was dirty, and the curtains were literally shredded. Please save yourself the stress and spend your money somewhere else.

The room I was in was very worn. There was peeling paint on one of the window areas, chipped counter tops, a very saggy sofa and mattress, and no thin shades or curtains to allow light in without exposing the guest to people walking by the window. The curtains were light blocking, so the choice is to have people able to see in as they walked by or keep the curtains closed and have a dark room hat required artificial light. Not great for waking up in the morning. The “breakfast” was coffee or black tea, chocolate muffins, and granola-type bars. Nothing fresh. I brought my own food for breakfast knowing there was a kitchenette. The challenge there was that it had no cups, plates, or utensils. To add to the experience, the walls and ceiling are very thin so you hear people walking about or people in the next room. And, due to it’s proximity to the airport, the sounds of jets taking off is very loud and begins before 6:00AM. The staff was fine, but didn’t make up for the less than average facility and amenities. I would not recommend this location to anyone who expects more comfort.

Breakfast was standard Hampton, and entrees were different each day. Location is quiet, away from the large group of airport hotels. It is in the takeoff pattern for Oakland, but an extra layer of window glass in the guest rooms kept the airplane noise to a whisper. Our only recommendation is to improve the room lighting, which is very subdued.

The only that I noticed was that the online pictures of the lobby and the rooms were not current. Carpeting throughout was in need of either replacement or a deep cleaning. But other then that the rooms were clean, had plenty of towels and most importantly for me was the shower, toilets, and bathroom floor were very clean as was the bedding.
