Beautiful building and room and very clean but no staff. We knew the restaurant was closed but the bar was supposed to be open in the evening and it never opened. There are no coffee makers in the room and no staff were around in the morning so guests gathered in the lobby waiting for coffee and to be able to check out. We ended up leaving our key on the desk as no one was there by 10am. It could be a beautiful place but it felt like a strange ghost town in both the evening and the morning.
Love the location, the old building, staff were great and helped with any thing I wanted or wanted to know about the area. I have stayed there before and will again.
Enjoyed our stay, but would not stay on the 2nd floor again. Walls are too thin. Also, a minor inconvenience, our reservations with Expedia said King Suite with full size refrigerator. We were given a King room with a mini frig. There really needs to be clarification with Expedia.
We went to the front desk after our first night and asked them to cancel the last two nights. The room was dirty and had paint peeling off the walls. The shower curtain was dirty too. She canceled our last two nights and said she would refund our money.
I really wanted to love this hotel, but we felt every year of its 100 years of age. The floors were creaky, the walls were thin, the mattress may have been original and the bed was terribly squeaky. It didn’t feel as clean as it could be (previous guest left popcorn on the floor and hair in the tub drain that greeted us upon arrival). It was charming for some of these same reasons, but I wouldn’t sacrifice another night’s sleep here again.
The room was cold with no thermostat to adjust. There is mold on the grout in the lower third of the shower walls. There os a pretty gas fireplace in the room but the front desk person said it doesn’t work. The front desk guy seemed put out that I checked in at about 9:15, and noted I was the last one in.

Liked: Staff & service
Disliked: Amenities
If you like older construction then you will appreciate this property. It is very charming.
We were there during Hurricane Helena, Staff could not have been more helpful not only to the guests but the families who came who lost everything and needed a hot meal, bottled water and a roll of TP. A strong community spirit when everyone was reaching out for comfort and basic needs and the hotel accommodated everyone for many days.
