The hotel is older and the pool is pretty gross. We had cold showers the first night so they moved our room and the water in the next room was just lukewarm. On the positive side the staff are very nice and friendly and the beds were comfortable.

The breakfast was an unexpected treat. Eggs, 3 types of meat, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, and giant muffins, along with the typical packaged fair. The room was ok, dated, but they allow pets for a nominal fee and it was super quiet. I would 100% stay again if passing that way.

I made the reservation for two nights, but when plans changed, I called several days ahead and tried to cancel the reservation. The worker who answered the phone directed me to Expedia where I was told the amount I had paid was nonrefundable. I had been led to believe that I didn't have to pay for the room until I was at Story City and had no notice the thing was nonrefundable. I hung up. This was a very unfortunate experience, but I can promise you I will never bother Expedia with any further business and am telling all my friends to avoid Expedia and the Comfort Inn in Story City, Iowa. I regret this development as we have stayed at the Comfort Inn several times a year for the past five years or so and have generally been pleased with the hotel.

This property is in need of major repairs and upkeep. Room service needs to up their game. They didn’t even make our beds. Our keys didn’t work and needed reprogrammed right off the bat. All the tables at breakfast needed wiped down and we were the only ones in there, so it wasn’t busy. And our food was lukewarm at best. I wouldn’t recommend staying here, but unfortunately this is the only place to stay in town that’s halfway decent.
