Unfounded Credit Card Charge. Thieves?

We stayed at the Wine Country Inn in Palisade, CO on our trip out west to visit many of our great National Parks. I was charged by the hotel the full amount of the incidental/security deposit credit card hold that they require when you check in and it was the largest deposit I have ever been required to put down. No other hotel in my travel life had ever abused their right to make a charge against the deposit so I slid my card in as required. I did not know they used the deposit until a few days after I got home and reviewed the transactions from our trip. I called them right away to inquire as to why they charged me as the room had been prepaid through Expedia. They told me that it was Expedia that told them to charge the card and "stuff like this happens when you book 3rd party". So I called Expedia (and it was difficult to get through) they said they had nothing to do with the credit card charge and then put me on hold while they called the Wine Country Inn who then changed their story about the charge and told Expedia that the charge was because three pillows were missing from the room that we stayed in. I did not steal their used pillows! Sad that people have to go through the hassle and wasted time and loss of money. Vacations are suppose to be about having fun, learning and creating good memories not the bad memories and hassles I got here. But I will as Rick Steves famously says "Keep on Traveling" and I will skip the Wine Country Inn next time I'm in Colorado.

Gorgeous hotel set among vineyards. Nice amenities such as welcome glass of wine and nice breakfast. Outdoor pool is very nice and the fitness center is available.

Amazing....Absolutely a must stay..!!! The service was incredible...Kicking my self in the ass because i didnt get the name of the lady whom has bionic hearing that attended to everything, from us checking in to the complementary glass of wine to the complementary breakfast in the morning where she was attending to...also..!!! and the food...Absolutely enjoyed the restaurant and the bar....i do not drink wine but my wife and mother in law do and they said it was fabulous to their tasting...and the bar had what i wanted...wish we could have stayed longer.....We definitely will go back, dont know when but we will even if its out of our way just cuz the service and the atmosphere!

Wine Country Inn is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. We are in Palisade 2-3 times per year and we always try to stay at this hotel. Everything from the staff to the beds to the outdoor areas are perfect. You will not be disappointed with anything!
