I’ll start with the nice parts of this property. The bed was definitely comfortable and was so nice to come back to after hiking Ranier. The property was in walking distance to the restaurants. It also offered a nice little snacks/amenities in the office. The biggest perk was seeing the elk feed in the field in the morning. The downsides were the staff. The man who checked us in was not friendly except when we asked to pet his dog (so sweet). He wouldn’t address my husband, only me. The rest of the housekeeping staff never said a word when we acknowledged them. The shower wouldn’t drain while we were bathing so we were standing in roughly 6” of water. I might as well have taken a bath. The water pressure was absurdly high so be careful putting your face in the water. At the times we wanted to relax and watch TV, it buffered and froze continuously and the Direct TV remote did not work. These are not make it break it things but it also took away from the stay. I would recommend it if you’re only in and out needing a comfy bed.

The walls are thin! We had a neighbor who kept the television on all night. Great place for our dog—big field surrounds the hotel. Also saw a herd of moose grazing in the morning. Good proximity to Mt. Rainier park.

We booked three rooms, they were a little loud, with the sounds of plumbing and air conditioners are old and loud when turning on and off through the night. Worst was one room only had lights in the bathroom, others had light bulbs out or wiring issues. Couldn't call front desk and phone didn’t work, nor coffee maker, must have been a bad outlet on that wall. Took 3 days to change a light bulb. Was told by front desk that all we needed was bathroom light anyway. Positive is the water in the showers were always warm and the rooms were clean. Beds were a bit hard but nothing a hot shower in the morning didn't fix. Overall we had a great stay

Vacation hotel near Mt Rainier

The lodge uses a weird smelling oil on their furniture which makes the room smell. Also the receptionists were not very friendly.

If you are visiting Sunrise@MtRainer, there are very few lodging options within one hour drive. Cowlitz is an old roadside motel. With the right expectation, Cowlitz will suffice for a one night stay. I stayed in a room with two queen beds. Shower has good water pressure and it drains well. Plenty of towels. There is an extra sink outside of the bathroom. It looks like the bathroom may have been renewed in the last few years. Rest of the room is unremarkable. Wi-Fi is fast that I can stream Netflix. I was able to park right in front of my room. There is no food service.
