Old-style motel in San Simeon

Old style motel. Room was quite small but clean, and it was very reasonably priced. The bed was comfortable but very high off the ground (an issue for a short person like myself). Coffeemaker in the room but no breakfast offered. The motel was not full but we had people staying on either side of us so it was a bit noisy. Very convenient to Hearst Castle, restaurants in Cambria, and the Pacific Ocean!

This hotel is on a large property with a spacious courtyard. Our room had a small balcony which we enjoyed. Hearst Castle, Elephant Seals (and Otters!), the light house, and Moonstone beach are all short drives away. Parking is easy. We had an issue with the first room we were given, but the front desk quickly assigned us to another room. They ask to let them know if you are arriving late. The Big Sur restaurant next door makes a reliable breakfast with American and Mexican-American choices. San Simeon is a quiet place, especially when the 1 to Monterey is closed. However, it's easy to link a trip here with Paso Robles, Cambria, or Cayucos.

Hot-tub needs cleaning , no air conditioning

So let me start off and state the property was clean. However, the hot-tub water was brown lacked any smell of disinfectant. The pool was clean"er" but still was not up to par. The room was clean, the beds and bathroom was clean. Tried calling for hours before we left to make sure the pool was working, and no answer. The real deal breaker was no form of A/C. It was really hot even with the back window open and the fan on. I feel that even front windows that open would have been an upgrade. Overall I would not stay again because of the dingy hot-tub/pool, and lack of cooling options.

Drive on by

No complaints about the room. The indoor pool had what looked like an oil sheen. The interior courtyard was grass clumps and exposed dirt and small mammal mounds. San Simeon, an utterly charmless 2 exit stretch of the 101, devoid of natural or commercial landscaping is there because of the apartment complex which I suspect houses most of the workers for the various nearby tourist communities. The private nature of the drab piece of highway frontage would be reason for the ugly commercial development because it surely isn’t the local aesthetics. If you get there after sunset and need cheap place to sleep it serves a function.

Don’t waste your money.

Hotel was old and run down. No restaurants open anywhere near the hotel. Stayed only one night instead of the 4 nights I originally reserved.
