When we first got there, check-in went well. The woman informed us it was her last day. Weird. So we went up to our room and we noticed there was a bottle of wine and two wine glasses. We thought how wonderful because we had told them at the front desk that it was our 35th anniversary. After two minutes of being in the room, we hear a knock at the door and there’s a young kid they’re telling us the wine was delivered to the wrong room and he needs to take it back. We laughed so hard because it was so low class. Five star hotels do not do that. When we did order wine glasses for a pre-anniversary celebration it took them forever to deliver them. I called again and they brought them right away, but said the wine opener will be delivered by someone else. When the wine opener finally arrived, the young man explained that they are very understaffed. Yeah no kidding. The pillows were extremely uncomfortable. Inexplicably, the room only had one chair. Also, for some reason, they left vacuum cleaners in the hallway, which just looked trashy. That said the staff was very nice for the most part. I love the Byredo bath products too. Anyway, I think an Intercontinental can do better than this.

Beautiful decor and extremely clean. Lovely breakfast buffet and menu along with coffees in the morning. Booked premium king room. Had to move after two nights due to noise from ?something in ceiling / staff room beside us. Constant creaking and thumping. Could not sleep well even with ear plugs in. Staff moved us to another smaller room (no adjustment in room rate) and although there was a utility / fire closet in between, could hear tv next door with ear plugs in. Had to turn on loud AC fan to drown out sound. Very disappointing when paying > £350-400 per night.

Was not given the premium king room I had paid extra for when booking w Expedia several weeks prior to my arrival. I was given a smaller classic king room. The website shows pictures and dimensions of each room. I was clearly given the latter. The manager Hannah was very rude and argumentative when asked to please be given the room I paid for.. She kept arguing w me and insisting I was given the premium room. We were exhausted and had been traveling overnight from the US to Scotland and Hannah’s attitude and lack of customer service skills were disappointing. After much back and forth we were finally offered a room that better fit the description of what was paid for . On a brighter note.. The two gentleman (David and Aslan) that showed us to our rooms and brought our luggage up were very kind, personable and professional. I give them 5 stars!

I enjoyed my stay at this property, the room was magnificent. Some of the property’s common areas could use a little refresh (mainly the bathrooms off the lobby area). Staff couldn’t be more accommodating and the little cafe attached to the hotel was outstanding, wonderful service and the best London Fog I’ve ever had. My one challenge was the location, it was a 20 minute walk to get to the main area of Edinburgh which is called the Royal Mile. I didn’t mind getting my steps in, just wanted put it out there as I would likely consider something more centrally located on my next visit.

The hotel is located on Princes Street in the central area of New Town Edinburgh. It is ideal for shopping, cafes, restaurants and bars, with easy access to museums and other popular places for sightseeing. When I was shown to my room, it was hot & maintenance confirmed the a/c was broken. I was reassigned to a new room. The a/c worked but had a small window facing a shaft. Nevertheless, he room was larger and seemed to be more in line with what I booked. Staff kept it immaculately clean but: The desk lamp stopped working after one day. They replaced it. The hair dryer didn’t work, and housekeeping had to replace that. The shower head belongs in the category of “Chinese Water Torture”. The desk is worn and had evidence of water damage. And the heated towel rack? As chilled as iced champagne on a winter’s evening. The hotel has a bar, café and restaurant. My booking included breakfast and that is held in the restaurant, Le Petite Beefbar. There is a breakfast buffet there which was great. I also had dinner there which was truly excellent with attentive staff to make recommendations for the food and drinks. The hotel is billed as a 5-star property. I recommend it but give it 4 stars due to the room experience.
