Unhappy Stay

Booked a One Bedroom Apartment and when I arrived was told I was upgraded to a One Bedroom Executive Apartment which is great right. Turns out it was not, as I walked into the room it had a very strong odour which was clearly obvious to the team there as all the windows were open and the air-conditioning was blasted to 19 degrees. I went down to complain as I would not have been able to stay in the room and unfortunately they had little to offer me. My only option was to down grade to a Studio Accessible Apartment. The reception team where fantastic with what they offered me but one thing was not offered was any type of reimbursement. Although I was not happy with that, I needed the other room because the odour was less impacted there. Also, as you exit the lift there is a strong wet smell in the hallways. Finally, my Studio Accessible Apartment the peephole could not be used as the cover was hindered by a safety plan that was fixed too close to the peephole. All in all, I would not stay here again no matter the price.

It was a great stay, the property was clean, had a free laundry and small gym, offers parking for 30$ a day and free coffee and tea. The only problem was the blanket that we slept under was quite dirty.

Appalling service & money-grubbing!

At no point of booking my accommodation at Quest St Kilda through Hotels.com was there any notification that there'd be a $300 deposit required upon checking in. The stress and anxiety this caused, in my already strained financial circumstances, was poorly handled by the reception staff who seemed incredulous at my shock of having to pay a deposit - trying to understand why it was being charged (since my stay at Mercure the night before hadn't incurred such charges!), I was patronised by the response of the hotel's need to have surety in the event of room damage, use of the minibar amenities or fire alarms being activated. This seemed completely outrageous considering 1. there was no minibar in the room, and 2. excessive concern that a guest would damage the room or active emergency alarms, feels completely at odds with any notion of hospitality standards or good customer service. I felt as if I were seen as some ne'er-do-well as opposed to a paying guest. I am deeply shocked, hurt and offended by the experience I received and I will never be staying at Quest again.
