Big Sur Lodge room was very good like in March 2025 but the Quality as well as the portion of the food(Amount of food quantity in a plate) has gone down in just last 3-4 months so reducing one star.

I loved that they provided easy to use (compostable tea-style bags), local coffee during my stay. It was so good - and the company so humble - that I bought more for myself as soon as I got home! I only wished I could have bought one of the same mugs in my cabin.
We loved having a fire in our cabin as well at the fireplace. However - be aware that your cabin will smell like a bonfire and your clothes will too!
This lodge needs a major renovation especially restrooms. The restroom smells like mold and shower panels have black mold along the caulking. Room #46. Restroom door, frames and overall wood bases had many scratches including peeled paint. Shower curtain smells bad. We decided not to take shower. For Room #5, similar conditions.
The location is unbeatable, you are right in the middle of the forest, completely immersed in Big Sur.
The cabins are comfortable and clean. Construction is outdated but this is not unexpected in a place like this. Staff is responsive and friendly.
Big Sur is unparalleled and Pfeiffer State Park is one of Big Sur’s jewels. The facility could use some updating, and the dining area is beautiful but the restaurant is a bit disappointing. However, there are options available and I feel guilty about pointing out flaws in paradise. I’d return in a heartbeat.

Kitchen is good to do your own meals and spacious living room. Shower dripped, toilet seat chipped, no place to hang towels or place things at sink by bathroom.

Within the state park which is beautiful.
Restaurant was good with great service from Mya.
Front of house were unfriendly and not particularly helpful.
We put a do not disturb on the room but the cleaners ignored this and came in.. not ideal.
No wifi at all in rooms should have been disclosed. Since cell service was also non existent it was nearly impossible to communicate with anyone at home. I understand getting away or "off the grid" but guests should be warned about this prior to their stay.

Lovely quiet stay with clean but dated and tired accomodation. Smelled stuffy and of firewood. Great for those that love outdoors and hiking.

Being so close to hiking was incredible. We were able to hike to the Pfeiffer Falls with our 2 kids (6 and 10 years old) without having to drive anywhere. The absolute picturesque place you would want to stay in Big Sur.

We had 2 lodges. One was obviously newly refurbished and the other needed a bit of TLC. It is a lovely place to stay though. The restaurant deck is nice, the reception / lounge is cosy and we liked being in the woodlands. Food was tasty but pretty expensive
Our cabin was fabulous, the in room coffee was sparse and weak and staff is difficult to find to ask for more coffee for our cabin. Not being able to communicate to staff (phone) is a pain in the neck. The front desk staff has NO knowledge about anything in the camp and was not able to answer any questions about anything. We had questions about the campfire talk that takes place at 8:30 pm on Saturday nights and if we could park in the day use area for this event but front desk staff knew nothing about it nor about if the day use parking would be open at that time. Upon arrival on Thursday, there was no parking due to an event happening at the lodge - when we asked if we could park up by the cabins or the pool until check-in we were told we were not allowed to do so.
We really enjoyed our stay at the lodge. The front desk was fantastic! So informative and incredibly nice. The room was nice, it could use a new coat of paint to freshen it up. The only issue I had is the portable AC unit. It was so loud! We would have just left the windows open but the screens were torn and we didn't want bugs in the room. Everything else was great! Would stay again!
