Carpets all need to be cleaned. The whole hotel and the “historic” room I stayed in was run down. Not the charming old, but run-down old where the light fixtures are falling off the wall and the wall outlets cannot hold a plug in place. Old and run down fixtures as well.
Had to take see my laptop to hold the plug in place.

The hotel staff were very helpful and efficient. The room was lovely and comfortable. But we were not expecting how loud the area is - lots of yelling and laughing, etc. on the street well into the night. Maybe staying on a different side of the building would be helpful.

The room we were given was directly above the street, the backside to some businesses under us. Very Loud garbage trucks and delivery trucks in the wee hours of the morning, along with a steel plate in the road outside our room that sounded like gunfire every time a car crossed it. The saving grace was the pub Crown and Anchor one block away. The food was excellent along with the service and fair pricing

This is a good hotel to just keep your stuff in while you are out and about in Monterey. The one thing is that there is no AC which is tough when the weather is warm during the day in Monterey. The vibe is old school almost haunted house, but not in a bad way. You just kind of feel like you are in a game of clue haha. However, it was a seamless check-in and check-out process and was a nice stay.

The hotel wasn’t bad, I think they pass more things off as “historic” than they should. I understand age of some things but other things were more so beat up than “historic” parking was a pain unless you pay them to valet the car but the town is nice and it is in a good area. It does get noisy around 7am with the birds and people moving in the hallways.

I was intrigued by the history but was disappointed in how loud and tiny my room was. Don't get a single queen room was like 12' x10'. Bathroom was decent sized but this hotel is definitely old and shows.

Enjoyed the location in downtown Monterey. It is a historic hotel. Comfortable, no housekeeping service, but able to request towels as needed. Staff was nice!

We stayed here for one night, and for a night's stay we enjoyed the hotel. It is centrally located to coffee shops, restaurants, and only a short drive to the wharf and aquarium. The hotel is quaint, with a lot of charm, and our standard king room was small, but for an overnight stay it was just fine. The bed and pillows were very comfy, and the rooms don't seem to have AC/heating, but we like to sleep in a cool room, so we kept the windows slightly open. Staff was very friendly, check in was simple, and we did use the $30 (a night) valet since we knew we wouldn't be needing our car during our stay, and we didn't want to have to park at one of the parking structures a block or so away. FYI, if you do want to use the valet, you will have to park in their "loading zone" which is not located near the main entrance, this is located in the back entrance and you will see a sign that'll let you know it's the hotel's loading zone. Once you unload your luggage, check in leave and leave your keys with the front desk and they will then take your car to their valet lot.

Loved the antiques that were all over. Including the hotel itself. The city needs to bolt down the plate outside the hotel in the street. Sounded like gunshots every time a car drove over it. The staff was great.
