The room is not as it appears. It is cramped and dirty. Caulk was peeling, and some white substance was on the shower wall. The hotel has an extremely eerie, creepy feeling to it. The front desk was very nice and professional, however. I was able to upgrade to a deluxe room, but if that wasn't possible, I was going to find another hotel. The pictures are very misleading. Also, no AC, so even in the deluxe room, I was forced to set up fans and have them running with the window open all night despite paying around $150 for the room. Finally, do not, under any circumstances, book in the historic section! It is so creepy! You have to walk across a poorly lit walkway above a tattoo shop with a door that looks like it will lock behind you.

The hotel is really centrally located in Monterey. The staff was excellent; however, the property is really showing wear. Pet friendly rooms should be designated and not available for those who do not what to stay in a pet friendly room!

We chose this hotel because it's located quite near the Monterey Bay Aquarium (less than a 10 min drive) and the Alta Bakery (5 min walk) and Starbucks (2 min walk). The Expedia price was considerably lower than what was quoted to us when we arrived and asked at the front desk, so we sat in the lobby and booked thru Expedia. Our room offered exactly what we needed -- a bed and a bathroom. We were on the side of the building where we could hear the city "wind down" on Sunday night and "wake up" Monday morning, which meant lots of loud talking as people walked by ... music blaring from car-equipped radios stopping at the light ... the grinding and crashing of trash trucks first thing in the morning. We could also hear the sea gulls, and we were able to open the window to enjoy some fresh ocean air. All things considered, we'll be staying here again.

Our college aged kids had a last-minute field trip to Monterey Bay aquarium, this hotel was safe and assisted them upon arrival, even though it had to be late at night. Really the customer service and the overall support of my children was wonderful.

While the ambience and vibes of the hotel are nice, it is very outdated and I probably won't be back. The bed seemed decades old, plus the outlets were very loose and could cause a fire hazard.

The hotel is very conveniently allocated in the downtown, very close to the Monterey pier and all the usual attractions. We had a spacious room with a seating area: table with two chairs. Everything in the room was in order, and the room was clean. We had nothing to complain about indeed. We stayed for two nights.
