Upon arrival, the front desk staff appeared visibly tense and treated me in a dismissive manner. Their facial expressions and overall demeanor clearly reflected irritation. I have spent several years studying nonverbal communication, so I am reasonably confident in identifying when someone is uncomfortable or displeased. I have been a paying guest at this hotel on multiple occasions and have spent a significant amount of money there. However, during this visit I felt unwelcome, as if the staff did not want to provide me service. Earlier, I was told by staff that there were no rooms available because the hotel was fully booked. To verify, a friend of mine attempted to make a reservation online and was immediately able to book a room under his name. I paid for that room with my own card. When I later approached the desk to inquire about the rate, the reaction from staff showed clear surprise and discomfort. At that point I felt I was being treated differently based on my appearance, particularly after my tattoos were visible. From that moment, the attitude toward me seemed judgmental and biased, as though I did not belong there. This experience was unprofessional and inconsistent with basic customer service standards. I recommend that the staff be retrained on how to interact with guests respectfully and without prejudice.

If you like old world charm this hotel is it! It’s updated but had that old school vibe, and that’s right up my alley!!! The rooms were very clean, don’t even get me started about the bed…it was like sleeping on a cloud. I will say that some people might say the room was small but for us it was perfect, the walk in closet was HUGE which was great because you could put your luggage in there and have more space in the room. The bathroom was vintage, which again I love, and also again I think some people might say it is small, but it was perfect for us. My boyfriend was not too happy with the water pressure but we managed. There is no AC which was not a problem for us since it was November, but the room did get a little stuffy and we needed to open a window a few times. In the lobby they have a coffee machine and serve cookies all day long, it’s not a make or break for me but it certainly was a nice touch and we had ALOT of cookies and coffee. I loved the location, if you like to walk, and we do, it’s walkable to pretty much everything, China town, north beach, pier 39, and the BART was close as well as the bus All in all I would 100% stay here again!

My daughter and I had a wonderful stay at the Chancellor - the building has a lovely heritage feel, with very pleasant staff, and considerate details. Free coffee, fresh cookies and complimentary popcorn in the lobby. As well there is a small bar with reasonable prices. The room was comfortable and the bathtub amazing. Plus it's very close to all a tourist might want to experience in San Francisco. We'll stay there again for sure.
