Resort is perfect for couples, modern decor enthusiasts, convenience to the pier, nice rooftop & pool bar. But for a family of four, we prefer their sister hotel, The Seabird.

Mission Pacific Beach Resort: My biggest compliment is that the hotel staff was super great. The property was clean overall. The rooms were nothing special. I thought there was a lot of wasted seating bench space that could have had drawers in for more clothing. The beds were so-so and there were plenty of pillows, but they were all the same (not soft-hard options). We stayed 7 days which evidently is longer than most people. Asked for daily complimentary housekeeping but had to ask for it 3 different days. There is no free breakfast. The drinks in the main floor bar are expensive $16 for a rum and coke). We never ate at the hotel as we didn’t care for the options. The Rooftop Bar is open to the public so always very busy. We walked through once but it seemed so pretentious that we didn’t stay. Small plate options are expensive and suggestive of rich wanna-be hipsters. Plus the rooftop pool is up past all the bar areas and not a lot of room. Cabanas cover all the seating so don’t expect to get a suntan. It was always full. We had a room on the north end of the building with an ocean view. We spent a lot of time out there just people watching. The area is very walkable. On Thursdays there is a Farmers Market nearby in the morning and a street festival in the evenings that is great. We chose the parking for $51/day just so we could have a car if we needed it. The valets did a good job. My takeaway: if you are over 55, this might not be the place for you!
