Charming cottage in North Park

We love our cottage but of course our opinion is biased. Please click on 'Reviews' for unbiased opinions.
That said... North Park is a lively and fun community. Walk to hip restaurants, cafes, wine bars, brew pubs, shops and fitness centers. We are 2 blocks and a 5 minute walk to Balboa Park's Morley Field where you will find hiking and running trails, a community pool, tennis, golf, an athletic complex, picnic areas, bike track, bocci court, tiny tots play area, and more. A bit farther into the park are the zoo and many museums -- still walking distance or a short ride. You will be 5-10 minutes from downtown hot spots -- Gaslamp, Seaport Village, Little Italy, Convention Center. Only 10 minutes to Coronado Island, a world class destination with beautiful, expansive white sand beaches. Seaworld is about 15 minutes via nearby highway, and easy access to the San Diego Zoo, museums and literally dozens of local restaurants and bars. Balboa Park measuring approximately 1.5 x 1.5 miles and 1200 acres in size, it is one of the largest urban parks in the country and is 2 blocks away.

Built in 1911, our 105 year old stable has been converted to a charming and comfortable 2 bedroom cottage complete with all the amenities of home.
Here are just a few:
Full kitchen with all the utensils needed to prepare a gourmet meal. Heated tile floors in the bathroom and a new walk in shower, hair dryer, quality shampoo and body wash, plenty of plush towels. Queen-size bed with memory foam mattress top (you will this see mentioned in our guest reviews.) Twin bed in the back bedroom and a full open closet, with a separate laundry room with front load washer and dryer and detergents. Broadband internet access with WIFI and a printer/scanner. HD Cable TV, Blu-ray player, Netflix, Pandora web browser & Bose Speaker to play your music from your iPhone, and more. Private fenced in patio with stainless steel 3-burner BBQ where you can relax after the day's explorations with a glass of wine, while being soothed by the rippling sounds of a water fountain that continually flows.
There are endless amazing restaurants in San Diego, but if you find you want to cook in one night, we have an herb garden full of rosemary, sage and thyme as well a beautiful lemon tree outside the cottage, there for your pleasure in picking fresh herbs for your culinary delights.

Our neighborhood is one of the most desired in North Park and is comprised of many welcoming and friendly neighbors and is quiet, yet a short walk to lively nightlife. You also have ample street parking in front of the cottage.

This super cute place was so charming and conveniently located to all the things we wanted to do while visiting. The house sits on the property behind the owners home, but they do a good job making it feel more secluded. It was just big enough for my family of 3 for our quick stay in town. I would definitely stay here again!

My brother and I stayed here for a couple of nights and we absolutely adored it. Every room was the right size, and every space was comfortable and will utilized. The open concept multi-wing cottage was well decorated, clean, and had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable, the place was bright (recommend sleep masks if you like to sleep in past sunrise), and warm. The only bathroom is in the master bedroom, which also has the only interior door. Hot water came quickly! There is a washer/dryer - which is a real nice touch for longer-term visitors - but we didn't use it. The kitchen is stocked with all of the tools we needed, and the fridge was a good size. The patio is truly lovely too! There are 2 sitting areas - one with 3 chairs, a table and umbrella, and another with 2 Adirondack/Muskoka Chairs. The main house has a water fountain that adds some really nice background noise (we found out it's for their koi pond).We were really fortunate to have had a chance to meet Betsy, John, and Carly who were all really nice.Definitely recommended!

Communication with host was excellent. The Spruce Cottage was immaculate and oh so comfortable. Great bed and a nice bathroom. The cottage was the perfect size for me. The outdoor space had comfortable seating, a clean grill and was private. Convenient to restaurants and Balboa Park. Plenty of on street parking. I loved my stay. I look forward to future stays!

Our host Betsy was very welcoming in her email communication. The cottage was so cute and clean. The linens were absolutely wonderful! Short walk over to Balboa Park, lovely neighborhood, never a problem with parking. The lemon tree and herbs and lavender were charming - stopped for a smell of lavender every time we stepped out of the cottage. Washer and dryer were so convenient, and the internet speed was fast enough for me to work virtually in meetings all day from the spare bedroom. The only thing I would offer as a suggestion is to have some starter coffee/tea, salt, and pepper and maybe a couple of bottles of water for guests to begin the stay before they are able to get to the market. We arrived late at night, and it would have been wonderful to have been able to make coffee upon waking up instead of having to go out uncaffeinated. Alas, we survived! :) All in all a very pleasant stay. Thank you, Betsy!

This was a great location for exploring the San Diego area. The neighborhood was a nice quiet neighborhood but close to plenty of cute shops and restaurants.We enjoyed the outdoor area several nights. The living room was a comfortable place to relax after a day of sightseeing. We never had any problems finding a spot to park when we got back.
