Room was not ready

I was a little annoyed that our room wasn’t ready until 4:30. Me, my husband, and our 3 grandchildren had to sit in the lobby for more than an hour before we got our room. We were hot, and tired from the long drive. They could have offered us some refreshments or something.

We traveled with our 3 year old and stayed for 2 nights. Our suite was very spacious and clean. On our first night we were excited to swim at the pool, but was it was closed. I recommend calling prior to going down with your kid crying asking why we can’t go in. Overall good experience other than that.

First of all, please know that there are 2 Homewood by Hilton San Diego hotels literally one mile apart and seemingly no way to distinguish them so be sure you are booking the correct one. We stayed at the other one down the street a few months ago and loved it so decided to book it again for our overnight in SD. It was SO disappointing to get to this hotel and realize it was the wrong one. The pool was much smaller and less nice IMO than the other which was a bummer since the pool was a big selling point. The worst part though was that after a long day at Seaworld we went to check in for our 1 night stay and our room was not ready. Not at 3pm when we got there. Not at 4pm (which is check in time!) we didn’t get our room until 4:30pm. They seemed very understaffed and disorganized. Otherwise seemed like a decent hotel.

Breakfast was great .. but staff all seemed grumpy and weren’t very helpful. The front desk lady seemed stressed and irritable while I was asking questions . I’m used to a top notch experience w Hilton.. but this hotel needs a good cleaning… and vacation for the stressed staff . Cleanliness- especially in the courtyard area was really poor .. All the tables were dirty .. with a breakfast that busy .. there should be a Housman/ attendant.. walking around keeping things clean .. the pool was closed . But beds were comfortable.. so that’s a plus . But all around. Hire more people.. detailed clean needed . Especially when big groups are there .. a “ big group “ being in the hotel is never a reason for individuals travelers to not get service or accommodation. Being told there’s a group —is no excuse for not getting towels , bedding ect this just shows a lack of preparedness on the management side ..

It is off the highway 8. Relatively new with modern deco and amenities. Wish parking were free ($26 a day) and pool were larger. My room has separate sleep and living rooms. The latter has small kitchen with pans pots and utensils. Very comfortable for family with small kids or 3 grownups. Will see how BF is like tomorrow.

Overall good experience, I may try again. Few things I feel can be improved, High parking charges. Only 2 water bottles provided on arrival. Could place easy access to drinking water dispensers on floor. Adding more indoor games setup for kids.

Breakfast and the staff were great; however, noticed constant overfilled trash bins near every exit and elevator. Not enough staff to pick up trash left outside of rooms. The 2nd day we returned to our room at 3 and it hadn't been cleaned yet- we asked for extra towels. We expected the room to be cleaned the next day, but no one came. We stayed 4 nights and our room was never vacuumed or cleaned once.
