I checked in a bit early because I had an early evening wedding to get ready for. When I checked in they said it would be a "small fee" for early check-in even though my room was already ready. I didn't really have a choice so I agreed (but I did not ask for the cost). I took a shower in the afternoon and the water was cold but I had to shower to get ready. I was running late so didn't say anything. I tried to take a shower the next morning and it was too cold to even get in. I reported that to the front desk when I checked out. That did not seem at all surprising to the front desk person. I asked if there was anything they could do to compensate for the lack of hot water and was told the manager does not make approve adjustments for those types of complaints. They did not even waive the early check-in fee which ended up being $50! I don't consider that a small fee. Overall, quite disappointed that there was no attempt to compensate me for what should have been a non-negotiable in a hotel room.

I thought it was highly overpriced for what was supplied, not even a bottle of water in the room. The position was good and it was clean but that is about all that was positive. I would not stay there again at that price.

We saw a play inside the hotel at the SF Playhouse and it was fun to stay over night in the same venue as the play. The lobby is vintage SF and pleasant. There was only one working elevator and it was old and slow, so there were lines that took awhile to get up and own from our floor. Our room was clean but very small. There was nobody else on our floor, so it was quiet. But we wondered why we were given such a small room considering no other guests were up there. It was in a separate little nook, and seemed like half a room. Even the sink in our bathroom was oddly short (it would be good for someone less than 5ft tall). When we went down to the lobby for complementary coffee/tea and madeleines, almost nothing remained at 0915am. I did get a trickle of coffee, but no more hot water for tea and no madeleines remained. Empty containers. Overall a "meh" experience. We will not stay there again, but we will keep seeing plays there.

Hotel was good, staff weren’t very knowledgeable of local area and would have been good to get ideas of local places to eat or pick up groceries. room was small but clean.

An ideal location .. close to Union Square, Chinatown, Embarcadero, restaurants, block from Powell cable car. The room was comfortable and staff responsive to queries. This is an older hotel and some areas are showing their age. We considered it part of the charm. Immediate area was relatively safe but, as in any big city, stay vigilant and know the areas to stay clear of. We would stay again!

I am pretty sure the very nice young lady working the swing shift was Amy. Amy was very pleasant & professional. Amy was efficient and very helpful in tracking something down for me. The young man check out was not friendly I asked a few questions and he just looked at me and never said a word. Maybe he is not a morning person. Didn’t catch his name. I do enjoy the room size and super comfy bed I fall and stay asleep like the summer of third grade. Ms.D

Relaxing music in the lobby to enjoy a hot drink before heading out in the morning was a nice touch. The old-time decor was charming. I've never spent any time in hotel lobbies, but this was a comfortable place to gather with our group in the mornings. The concierge was very polite, friendly and responsive.
