It was a shock to see how many add-ons there were on our bill. The city taxes are daunting. We were sorry to see so few mom and pop businesses downtown and so few department stores left around Union Square. We came to do some Christmas shopping and bought only three back scratchers in ChinaTown. The shopping was dismal.

Hotel seemed to lack some of the personalization that higher end hotels offer...no valet on duty when we arrived, no doormen, no bellmen...room was clean and fine, but nothing extra...door to bathroom was difficult to close and no fan in bath. Mattress felt worn, old, and need of replacement.
