Wonderful location and hotel. Directly across from Brighton beach. We had a lovely sea view room. It was a bit loud at night, as the bar was directly under our window, but we managed with a sound machine.
1st room was very neglected (chipped furniture, thred bare carpet, peeling wall paper) and dirty. We where offered an alternative room, after one night we moved again (broken shower). The third room was clean, it was very dated (60's). The staff were polite and could not do a enough for you and dealt with issues quickly.
This Hotel was absolutely horrendous!!!.. it was filthy dirty.. constant drunks and individuals on drugs sat at the entrance to the property!.. scared my daughter.. the rooms were absolutely disgusting.. wall decor falling off and crumbling.. the bath was covered in limescale and leaking taps and shower.. the room was dirty..the bedding dirty.. it smelt of damp and old smoke and was absolutely unfit to stay in!
The hotel itself was comfortable.
But lots of gypsy folk which is not a problem when they behave but as the evening progressed they got more unruly and ended up in a fight which ended with the police being called.

Good value stay
The Old Ship is an amazing history hotel. It's olde worlde and full of quirky charme. It's central and seafront based so that's always a plus . I slept peacefully and loved my retro room. Yes, it's worn looking but for the price, it's great. I'd return to this hotel as it's warm and safe.
This is my favourite hotel and if could take it to where I am staying I would! The bed is the most comfortable I have had. We stay in the same disabled access room and it is just right.
The wet room bathroom is good a bit tired but ok.
Having stayed twice in 2 weeks I noticed this is the one place we return to that I know I am going to relax and sleep well in.
Great location on the seafront but also a five minute walk into the heart of Brighton shopping and food.
2 minutes from the Brighton centre and an easy stroll to the Dome and Palace theatre. What more could you want

Liked: Staff & service
Could do with some updating and maintenance work. Quite shabby in places. Pricey for condition of the hotel. Breakfast was good but had to pay for it. Not one I would choose to stay at again, not for that price anyway.
This is a good location but quite noisy at night and difficult to get to when you have a car. The only option we found available for parking cost us 42 pounds for the overnight stay (42pounds for 24 hours). Breakfast was excellent with good choices.
