4.0 Decent hotel, close to eateries and shops.

Really clean, comfy bed and decent lodgings. Good location near shops and eateries. Close enough to San Diego downtown (15 mins) without staying in town. The pool looks absolutely amazing from the photos on the website.... but it’s not as big or luxurious as it looks. Having said that, it was still a great pool, heated and the kids could spend hours there. A lot of bees though!! Only issue was the parking - I’d agreed to their $10 per day charge and parked my car near my room. We then got a parking violation notice threatening to tow it!! Apparently we needed some parking ticket on our dashboard confirming we’re guests... I had no idea as reception didn’t give me anything after I ok-ed the charge upon check in!!! Wasn’t pleased at all that we then had to sort that out.

2.0 Rude Staff and Terrible Internet

The hotel room was fine for my two night stay, basic but did the job. My problem lies with one particular staff member at reception. The problem that I had started at check in. I arrived at around 11:30am, understanding check in started at 3pm so I was going to drop my bag and come back. The woman rudely said check in didn’t start until 3 but proceeded to take payment/ID anyway which was fine and then told me there was a room available so I took it and went up. My rate that I paid for said “Free High Speed Internet”, the problem was that the “Free High speed Internet” was barely 1MB/S which is not acceptable. The only other option was a premium version, which cost money. I returned to reception to clarify which level of internet I received for “free high speed Internet”, the same rude receptionist told me that I was only entitled to the basic internet service and when I showed her my booking confirmation, she shrugged and said she wouldn’t give me the premium internet without paying and that she didn’t care about my complaint, just told me to call technical support. Based on my experience with the receptionist between 11:30am-12pm on Sunday, 24th June, 2018, I will not be returning to the hotel.

Kimpton Solamar Hotel

4.0 Here for Business Conference

Ok truth is I wouldn't have chosen this hotel online, however it was where the conference I was attending was held so I booked in. I was pleasantly surprised, the staff were geninely friendly and did everything to make my stay very comfortable, room was spotless and the silent air-conditioning appreciated to get a good night's sleep. Being in the Gaslight District meanr't finding places to meat really easily. Recommended.
