Nice hotel, good location

The hotel was clean and had everything you needed. Good location for walking to the BP Pulse arena. The room was comfortable, well maintained and clean. It was nice and quiet considering it is a big hotel and busy, we didn't hear any noise from other rooms. The bathroom fixtures were a little old and cranky e.g. the taps on the bath were difficult to use and the toilet made a noise for about 5 minutes after flushing. The breakfast was exceptional with a lot of choice.

Oh dear. What a disappointment. The room (2089) is a "Single Deluxe" room but have no idea what makes it "Deluxe". Its a weird triangular shape which means that the toilet is also a weird shape - when you sit on the toilet seat you end up banging your knees on the side of the bath. The shower seems to have two temperatures - tepid or scalding. If you want to use the wardrobe you can only use one half as there is a heavy standard light blocking the other one. The TV has a very clunky interface to access the channels (I dont think their management have ever reviewed how it works as it has some horrendous abbreviations of option titles), many of the channels arent tuned and after a period of time the bottom half of the screen disappeared! The bed is OK but a little towards the hard side. Theres no minibar and the tea/coffee making facilities are basic. The check-in process was a farce - I acknowledge that the check-in time is 3pm but when you have been told by 3 different people that they will arrange to get your room ready early (I was suffering from severe jetlag) and told to come back in an hour each time it kinda mucks up your day to have to keep going back only to be told they know nothing about the previous conversations and to come back in another hour!! My interactions with staff have been lacklustre at best which was emphasised when during the 50 min fire evaluation at 9pm there was very little communication. Not what I expected of a Hilton Metropole....

It's what you'd expect from a Hilton - a very pleasant, clean, comfortable, spacious room with a huge bed in a nice hotel. We enjoyed using the pool and spa and the buffet breakfast was the perfect start to a busy day. Blackout blinds and good sound proofing meant that we slept well. The area's quiet and nothing to get excited about, but super convenient for the NEC, which is why we stayed there. We really appreciated the view of the lake. Extras like parking and drinks in the bar are expensive, though.
