Excellent

The communal areas especially the garden room & the open hallway/ staircase / reading area are stunning. The twin room was disappointing by comparison, did not feel warm& welcoming. Rather stark & basic. Bathroom was large & very nice but the “ wet room “ type shower sent water hurtling up to the wall, under washbasin& toilet, flooding the whole area& could not stand to get ready in mirror without my boots on. I reported to reception who sent a man who mopped up the water with lots of towels & brought fresh ones.No explanation was offered & I did NOT risk another shower the next day. They did not offer to move me or suggest anything? I had paid on arrival for x2 nights as mine was a debit card& was told they had to take it straight away on debit card, unlike credit card on leaving in which case I would have felt more able to negotiate a reduction in price!
It’s a beautiful building right next to the train station and a few minutes walk to city centre The receptionist was very friendly and helpful.
But the breakfast wasn’t good, especially considering the price they charged. It’s worse than Holiday Inn’s breakfast which is much cheaper.
The raining shower didn’t work.
I have to admit this was one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in. It was tastefully decorated, staff were friendly but not in your face and the feel was quiet luxury. The room was lovely too.
Only liked the close proximity to York city.
We booked a Signature Studio Suite, City View .
The room was 209 and it was dark , dingy , tired and grubby.
The pillows were the cheap foam filled variety , the bedding itself was decent cotton quality.
On arrival the room aircon had been set at 23 degrees which was far too hot for us and the aircon would not function to a setting below 19 degrees .As the windows were restricted from opening beyond a few inches we had a hot sleepless night .Breakfast was a pretty basic buffet with a lot of guests crammed into a corner of a big room queuing up to load their plates .To add insult to injury , we needed to use an hotel umbrella, we forgot ours, and were charged £2 for the privilege. I am sorry , but paying £318 to stay one night in what looked like a retirement home was the final insult.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Parking is a bit of a nightmare as its so busy and not just for hotel guests. Hotel has some beautiful features. Our room was very large and comfortable, a little tired in places but that is the usual when you book a dog room. The dog bed and bowl was a nice touch. Food was very nice. I would 100% stay again.
For the price of the stay the hotel wasn’t up to standard.
We paid for a double room and the bed was tiny.
We had to go back to reception three times to get key working.
Rooms very dated and basic.

Beautiful hotel areas
The reception area and areas in the hotel were amazing. The rooms some of the lamps didn’t work and under the bed wasn’t as clean as should be but still a very nice stay. Breakfast seemed warm but not hot
