They don’t tell you the parking prices (per day) and they wait until you check out to tell you how much everything will be. Did not mention any pricing while checking in.

The place was nice enough, but is old and in need of updating. The location was convenient if you plan to spend most of your time on the west side of the island, but expect to be driving a lot (2 hours RT) if you want to visit the National Park or other areas near Hilo. I dont agree with this being an actual resort. The amenities provided are on par with a standard hotel. Resort fees were excessive. Not all rooms listed as Ocean View provide a full view of the ocean. There are many that will only offer a partial view. Be careful when booking.

I loved the ocean front view from our room and at the restaurant. They had construction going on but it didn’t bother us. The resort was clean and staff was friendly and helpful.

Royal Kona hotel was a comfortable place, with a great atmosphere around the bar and restaurant. Short walk to lots of other restaurants and shops.

The property is in a beautiful location with wonderful staff. However, it is a bit dated but they are working on fixing it as we noted during our stay. We were in tower 2 but I believe they are working on 1 now. They do need to update the gym but the morning yoga facing the beach was outstanding

The staff was very helpful. Close to many dining and shopping choices. We found the Resort to be loud and in disrepair. We could hear every sliding door to the lanai's as they were opened and closed at all hours. The pool appeared dirty and there was a white lime scale build up on all the tiles. The Resort is under renovation, so are looking forward to returning in couple years to see the changes.

Expensive and underwhelming

In general, the hotel was very dated and I was also underwhelmed with the room. Nice view, but the bed and couch were very uncomfortable. The AC was cold but blew straight at the pillows (i.e. my face). Sheet and top were very thin, so I had to ask housekeeping for a proper blanket. The food and drinks were good, and no reservation was needed for the pool chairs.

Although slightly dated, the Kona Resort was a perfect stay for my wife and I. Understand, "dated" is not used in a derogatory sense, but showing wear from the many happy people who have stayed there. We were never uncomfortable; we were always greeted with a smile and were told the rich history of Kona. We met people from all over the world. Everyone spoke of their stay and how much they enjoyed it. Frankly, we wouldn't stay anywhere else. The staff, the hotel, our new friends made it so wonderful. Mahalo.
