Everything was great except the staff! Which is so odd - a nice, clean hotel in not the best area - very clean, well appointed, etc.
Then, my AC did not work (was 85 degrees outside). The clerk said it worked. I invited him to verify - he seemed unwilling. So I made him look. He agreed it did not work. His solution: open the window! Then his second solution: "well, this is the room you paid for".
I became irate and demanded another room with working AC. He seemed upset with my request and implied they were sold out. I brought out my angry side and he suddenly said, "oh look, another room just became available". PS - it was 11 pm. Rooms just do not become available at 11 pm.
The second room was fine - nice AC, clean and neat. 20 minutes later I get a phone call: "why aren't you paying for your room!". Huh? (That's what I said). He told me that since I "requested" a different room, I had to pay that extra price. R U kidding me?!
I argued and it was clear - pay more or sleep on the sidewalk. So I paid.
Then I get another call, this time with him screaming at me. My card was declined because I forgot to approve it for out of state travel. He was on the verge of insanity, going off on me. I was shocked. So I paid with another card, problem solved.
In the morning, I explained the situation to the people at check out, and they expressed zero concern for my stay.
Summary: nice simple hotel in LIC, absolutely horrible staff.
